Artist Bio - Zofia LickovaI’m predominantly a self-taught artist and consider myself contemporary. There has always been and artistic seed deep inside me and I’ve made few attempts to draw and paint many times in my life. However, I started more intensely when covid-19 hit, and I have not stopped since. I’m inspired by nature, geometric shapes, and colours. Every time I see a nice colour combination, I can’t stop thinking about it until I come home and mix the same shade. Most of my painting are abstract and I also love painting geometric landscape. One day I have an idea in my mind, and I know what I want to paint. Another day the process of painting is pretty-much intuitive and opportunistic with nothing firm in my mind. I paint few shapes on canvas, then I rotate the board of canvas each way trying to see something. It’s very deliberating process. I love learning the medium which are working with. I started with soft pastels only because I was given a box when I was a child and I kept it until now. Currently I primarily work in acrylic but every now and then I give a go to a medium I’ve not tried yet. I sometimes do series in the same colour palette. My local surrounding provides me inspiration for my artwork. My creativity extends beyond painting into other form of arts like lino-cutting to recycling an old piece of furniture. I hate waste, I don’t like accumulating possession. I try use, re-use and recycle how much I can. I have Slovakian roots thus you might see some symbols of Slovakian folklore in my artworks which is deeply inside me. I’ve been residing and working in Melbourne greater area since 2022. Additional I draw inspiration and mentoring from my uncle, Blazej Balaz, Slovak contemporary arist and art professor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bla%C5%BEej_Bal%C3%A1%C5%BE. I lived few years in Scotland where I admired the beautiful Scottish nature. Some of my paintings are influenced by this period. So far, I have had one solo exhibition which was in in Melton until September 2024. |

Have been with gallery247 for 6 years, both free and now paid. Wonderful on line platform for artists which has made my work easy to find and i don't need to worry about setting up my own website; they even forwarded a message from a community college i volunteered for a few years ago, for an art tutor.
