Tree Of Life Drinking From The Well Of Hope

Description : Hope. While creating this painting my heart was full of hope. We worry about our earth and its sustainable future. The effects of our past deeds impact our future. Plastics, polluted air, and deforestation are just a part of our problems. And though Covid 19 has shown us how vulnerable we are, it also has cleaned our air and reminded us of how important our families are to us and that we must work together for a better future. This work has a circle of light serving two purposes. Highlighting our circle of life and indicating how small our world really is. We must take care of what we put in our earth’s soil and atmosphere, ‘as we sow so shall we reap’. Beneath the tree the Well of Hope has many symbols reflecting on some of the actions we need to take to help give us clean water that will travel up the roots to allow our Tree of Life to flourish. Above the ground our future shows clean air and water, sailing boats, wind farms, parklands, trees, butterflies, birds, cyclists and walkers. The tree planters are dressed in the colours of flags of the world. My story shows that by working together, changing the past and looking after our environment the future will be brighter for all of us and future generations.

Art has been a part of my life ever since I can remember.
My favourite pastime since childhood has been drawing. And the first thrilling win when I was seven in a school book week illustration competition ensured I would forever be an artist. Some years passed as a weekend artist and since 2015 I've been delighted to be a full time one. My first love is oil paint. I came to love this medium when I attended art sessions with the noted late Robert Doyle. In so many ways he has been my inspiration and I like to think he is still helping me.
I like to challenge myself with a variety of subjects and mediums but I always come back to my original love of oil paints and the Australian landscape. Now that I am based in the Riverland of South Australia I have an abundance of scenes to choose from. The River Murray, the river red gums and the variety of eucalypt blossoms are a never ending temptation.
Every day brings an exciting choice. Just a walk by the River Murray stirs the imagination. Shall I paint the birds squawking noisily or the graceful river gums and as the seasons change more options offer themselves. Each subject lends itself to experimenting with technique and style which leads to interesting and exciting art work.
I get much joy from my art and trust that the art collector feels that joy and excitement and wants a little bit of Australia in their home.
