Here Be Dragons #2

Description : "Here be Dragons #2" is a smaller version in a similar style and colouring to #1. It harks back to old maps of the world where vast areas were unexplored and sailors and mapmakers encountering any dangerous creatures described them as monsters and marked that on their maps. In this case, given I am a fan of fantasy and science fiction, I decided to call them dragons. The artwork is unframed, has the artist's name on the front, is signed on the back and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. The sides of the painting are painted to match the front so framing is not required however framing options can be seen below or from your cart before check-out. Images showing framing are examples only.

I am an artist based in Brisbane, Australia working primarily in acrylic. As a self-taught artist I enjoy challenging myself and experimenting with different ideas and subject matters exploring the boundless possibilities of this versatile medium. My subject matter varies from expressionist to impressionist to just strange ideas and concepts depending on whatever pops into my head.

I love colours and always start by choosing my initial set.    These are generally a minimalist palette but then mixing them together gives more variety.  My art is original and hand-painted using a variety of tools such as brushes, scrapers, palette knives, fingers and sponges etc. so brush strokes are to be expected.  If you are very lucky you might find a rare stray brush hair embedded in the paint :-)   I am also not a particular fan of straight even lines although I do some geometric abstraction works from time to time.   I believe small imperfections add to the originality of a work.

My influences are mostly from the stunning abstract expressionist works of the mid-20th century which have such a feeling of raw intensity. However I also love abstracted and moody impressionist landscapes and I see no conflict between such diverse styles. While I sometimes use reference photos or materials, these really are just a starting point as once I commence I tend to forget about them and just get carried away in the painting. I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enoy making it.
