A Parallel Universe

Description : A PARALLEL UNIVERSE began as an experimental work that had evolved into a painting about planets and the universe. Following on from 'Feeling Free', an earlier exploration of non-figurative painterly effects, this work had developed organically from pure abstraction to a more structured and defined composition. While the primary focus of the previous work was to do with the painting process rather than the final outcome, here it became all about the end result. The painterly effects resulting from experimentation with a variety of materials ultimately determined the direction that the artwork would consequently follow. Colours and patterns began to resemble surfaces found on some planets in the cosmos, which ultimately set the theme for the painting. It is not a literal representation, but rather an imaginary, alternative universe. The artwork is available for viewing in Cheltenham, Melbourne, prior to purchase.

In the 1970’s I studied painting, photography and ceramics at Monash University (Monash campus), graduating in Fine Art & Design, followed by a Diploma of Education from Melbourne University.  Between travels in Europe, Japan and the US through the 1980's and '90's I worked in retail management while creating much of the artwork and merchandise for sale at the family's art and craft gallery in Brighton. In 1998 I went on to establish Articall Art & Framing Gallery in New Street Brighton. My roles as owner/operator of Articall from 1998 to 2014 encompassed business management, art consultancy, picture framing, interior decorating, and conducting art classes for groups of all ages & experience. In 2014, after 16 years of operating from a retail space in Brighton, Articall had transitioned to trade solely as an On-line Gallery at www.articall.com.auThis change was to enable me to focus more on developing my own art practice, in addition to conducting weekly art workshops. Themes explored in my paintings range from urban landscapes to pure abstraction.
