Because I hadn't painted for so long, I dared myself to place a single dot of paint on a canvas.
What resulted was a purple abstract.
It seemed quite good, so I decided to have another go at it, but with a coloured background this time. (See, I felt so lazy and uninspired that I didn't even bother doing a background on the first piece!).
Every few weeks, I did another, all using different colour palattes.
By 1 December 2021, I had five paintings and started considering the possiblility of selling my work online, or having a physical exhibition in the coming year.
I had settled on the concept and name for the series: 'Dot on a Canvas'.
Process
The first piece flowed well visually, but I did not colour the background, leaving the raw white canvas.
Therefore, I selected a colour palatte and painted a plain background for the second attempt.
Rather than using a colour straight out of the tube, I mixed my own background colour, to ensure it would be unique. I did this for many of the foreground colours also.
As a side-note, my complete lack of inspiration and laziness in the first piece is what led to the technique that I continued throughout the series (I had not been well and lacked energy).
What happened was that I placed the canvas flat down on my art table - as getting the easel seemed to be too much trouble for me that day! And, I'm glad I did.
From that day, I developed a drizzling and flicking technique, accompanied by dots and strokes.
However, by November, I had pushed the boundaries of the flicking and drizzling. 'Rebel against the grey' was almost too much to endure. It was a statement, but it had verged on becoming ugly.
So, I wound back my technique, seeking a balance.
My next piece didn't really fit the series. It was in earth tones and featured hand prints. I omitted it from the series (number 6).
Then something wonderful happened! I decided to paint larger and use my favourite colour as a background (purple). 'Magical Breeze' was born (number 7). It seemed to have the balance that I was seeking.
The next piece was another experiment. I had purchased some Mont Marte Satin Acrylics and wanted to see what they were like to paint with. Although they were not the lightfastness of the Atelier interactive range, they were smooth as silk and felt wonderful under the brush! I used some Atelier in mixing the colours, to ensure the longevity of the work.
This piece was unusual and looked like immune system cells! Given the pandemic and that I had recently had a vaccine, it was an interesting twist. I called it 'Grow' (number 8).
Finally, after watching episodes of 'Landcape Artist of the Year' on YouTube, I was curious about trying out an orange background. As a background, not an under-colour to 'pop' the other colours.
So, I created 'Jazz'. A dance of colour that again struck the right balance of drizzle and dot. It gained a nickname: 'my little pumpkin'. See, this was the first time I had ever painted on an orange background.
Today, 4th of March 2022, I have started a new painting in the series, called 'Candy'. And yes... it is pink!
In the future, I am planning to create some larger pieces in the series, so stay tuned!

I have been gradually creating digital art ans house portraits that are found locally in the Shoalhaven and Illawarra regions. These images range from suburbia and domestic dwellings, to commercial shopfronts. These document the changing face of local and iconic architecture in my locale and surrounding regions such as Berry, Kiama and Gerringong.

Each one of my expressive abstract paintings is absolutely unique, the result of an intuitive, exploratory journey.
Starting from mark-making in an abstract expressionist style, I continually turn the painting around, build layers adding and subtracting and letting the image evolve as it wants with some of the history showing through. Unlike my semi-abstract paintings (inspired by nature), these abstracts are not in any series. Even if I start 3 at the same time with the same colours and mark-making tools, each one will go on a journey of its own.

This collection is based on size rather than content. It contains small paintings with the longest side up to 31 cms or 12 inches.
These paintings are mainly pure abstracts, often experimental (trying out techniques, colour combinations, new media etc) or just for exploration and relaxation.
Each one will appear in one of my other themed collections.

The artworks in this collection are inspired by the specific places that are mentioned in their individual descriptions. Slowing down and really becoming part of nature has always been my way of regeneration - I talk about listening to the sounds of silence but in reality you get such a heightened awareness of all your senses, especially when walking in the forest.

This collection is made up of individual semi-abstract artworks inspired by nature (that don't belong to any of my specific nature-inspired series - Ningaloo, Shaped by Nature. Nature Walks, Nature Nurtures or Out of the PIndan).

I keep coming back to the concept of nature as a sculptor. I'm fascinated by the way time, tide, weather etc form an everchanging landscape - the amazing shapes, colours, abstracts of the natural world.
In this series of semi-abstract artworks I'm emulating and interpreting the forces of naure and nature's processes rather than portraying a specific scene. All the works in this series (including images of those sold) are on our website.

My semi-abstract, intuitive artworks are often inspired by the mysterious underwater world of the incredible but fragile Ningaloo Reef and coastal area near Exmouth in Western Australia; the flashes of light, the strange shapes which you can imagine as all sorts of things maybe watching you and the beautiful, twinkling colours ... we are passionate about protecting Ningaloo
There have been 13 artworks so far in my popular Ningaloo series - just 4 are still available.

This is the collection that I am currently working on. It explores the way that the red oxide pindan soil of the ancient arid/tropical Kimberley Coast erodes and breaks up revealing incredible new landforms emerging. I'm obsessed with it and talk about it as "landscapes being born".
This is a very harsh, coastal environment. Water causes deep crevices to appear in the pindan and you often see bright green creepers and the occasional bit of scrubby vegetaion in these causing even more damage. The relentless movement of the huge tides reaching up then falling back down, constantly undercutting and eroding the soil means that the bottom part looks very different to the top.
These artworks are intended to be semi-abstract with a raw, very organic look suggesting major signs of erosion and instability caused by the forces of nature (rain, wind, scrubby vegetation and constant movement of the sea). I'm using lots of gorgeous earthy colours and blues for a baked-earth look contrasted with the constant movement of cool water.
I'm attempting to emulate and interpret nature's processes. I'm working outdoors with organic markmaking tools (picked up in my garden), palette knife and my fingers, pretty wet and rough and let water run over and over again (I'm a huge fan of the drip!). Then I leave the canvas to dry in our hot sun and wind. I also tear collage papers created by sopping up liquid in the early layers, scrape through them and let them crease. (Nothing too neat in this landscape!). There are very few brushstrokes on these canvases!. The later canvases in this exploration are getting more more complex and some might say weird but I'm happy with that!
There are now 7 artworks registered in this collection. I've nearly finished an eighth. Now I'm regrouping and organising some more canvases. Watch this space ....

works completed after the dramatic and destructive Australian bushfires. Some works reflecting the blackened remains which in themselves hold a beauty in their form and colour. Glimpses of hope and rejuvenation in other works and bursts of colour demonstrating the resilience of nature.

These are works produced during long Sydney lockdowns. I found myself wandering off and daydreaming as I painted. For some unknown reason my work started to take on a similar journey to my previous Urban Asphyxiation series about the chaos on Sydney roads due to urban infrastructure projects and how we huddled down trying to avoid the noise and dust. .
This voyage manifested from wandering thoughts not the impact of driving in a polluted city. The rush as people raced to get out of the city 'Relocation' as the house prices boomed or 'Escape to Nowhere.' because Covid was everywhere. The colours reflect my moods. I will add more paintings and you can get an idea of the journey.

My peaceful collection are all pieces I did between doing my Mental health collection.
With my mind so raw, The feel of the paint spreading across the canvas, the blending of the colors, the images and associations they invoked, all brought peace to my ravaged mind.
When I look at them, the peace still comes to the fore. Each piece brings different thoughts and feelings of peace - Beaches or sunsets or waves. I hope they bring you a sensation of pace and relaxation as well.

Living in Melbourne, Australia during 2020 & 2021, I found myself in lockdown for long stretches. These artworks were all created during that time and inspired by movement and the need to feel like I had control over how I moved and where I moved, even though I was was being restricted to my home. Whenever I started painting, I was suddenly free and I could feeling the movement of the world outside and found myself trying to express that through my art.
Most of my work is abstract oil or acrylic paintings on canvas. I make art for myself with the hopes that others will see something in it that speaks
to them as well.

Australia haas some of the best beaches in the world - warm, tropical to temperate zones. Being an island you can enjoy bothe sunrise and sunset depending on where you are, East or West coast. Rocky coves, sandy beaches that go on forever, most are desolate with few humans all the time - fringed by Yucca trees or mangroves and abundant National Parks. I could go on forever.... just the best beaches!

This little collection of paintings was created on my first trip to Italy. A few years ago the timing was right and I was lucky enough to be able to attend two weeks of Plein Air oil painting classes at an old monastry called Villa San Rocco in a tiny Tuscan village - Bennabbio - with some fellow painters and our teacher Don James. This contry is breathtaking and it was love at first sight, and so began my Italian love affair.

In addition to my usual highly detailed works I alos love producing abstract works on either timber panels or canvasses using similar mediums such as acrylic or aerolsol spray, alcohol inks and an etching tool.

All of my landsacpe works have been created using alcohol inks, acrylic paint and a soldering iron to etch into the surface of timber panels. All of my paintings are sealed with a high qulity low sheen lacquer and come with a cetificate of authenticity. Some of my works are already framed (included in price already), those that are not framed do not have to be framed as they have painted and sealed edges. From the first moment I stepped into a rainforest on the East Coast of Australia, I fell passionately in love with the trees and all the flora and fauna associated with it. When ever I am able I go walking on the gorgeous well kept trails and pathways on the East Coast. They are truly a National treasure and deserve protection and recognition, for they are unique in the world and irreplacable in one lifetime. Some Mother trees may be up to 1000 years in age and scientist/biologists are only just beginning to wake the public up to their enormous importance in the role of biodiversity and health for the overall planet, as well as the amazing 'Intelligence' of trees. Yes, they communicate through fungi mycorrhizalroot systems and together play an important role in a symbiotic relationship trading nutritional values from the soil and sun with each other, and overall keep the soils and the forest of junior trees, healthy and balanced.
Tree's are the 'Mother" of all of mankind in the sense that they have nurtured us through time, attracting life giving rain, providing oxygen, giving us warmth (fire ) when we need it, shelter from the elements, tools to make and use, and fruits to eat, medicine if we are aware of it, and even lend a wise ear to our commiserations in times of trouble. They are truly more than worthy of the description "friend" in every way. In fact without them, we humans could not exist or breath.
They are quite remarkable beings. May we, in turn, be humbly grateful for the trees on our planet, especially the rainforest, which is a sort of biodiverse supermarket among forests - as well as being a rain attractant!

The Wild Flower series are inspired by the incredible array of spring wildflowers that bloom here in Central Victoria where I live. I have tried to capture the surprise of coming across a little burst of colour hidden in the undergrowth. Often these flowers are very tiny and you have to get down really low to see them which I do with my camera. Back in the studio, these photos act as a reference to reignite that initial moment of delight.

Some of the fun of art is being able to play with colour and abstract styles. This collection of Catherine's 'Peacock Frills' does just that! There are three colour styles at present (but another colour is soon to be worked on). These can be sold as a set, or individually.

Catherine loves the sea and sunsets, and the combination of the two is even better! The waves and sun reflection on water in abstract form, is something that Catherine has been working on since living in Australia and being inspired by the coastal environment.

The Title of this collection is actually based on the center of the flowers, or close ups! Played on the words to make 'Scenters'! Catherine likes to change colours, and styles and zoom into what nature has to offer in the flower world.
The two Wild Iris paintings (both wood framed) can be sold together, or individually. Also, the two round canvas flower paintings (Busy Bee Dahlia and Winter Sun Camellia) can be sold together as a pair, or individual.
