I am an artist and musician living in Sydney.
I was raised on a working farm in country NSW. I grew up with wide open spaces, motorbikes, animals and endless adventures.
I remember my childhood experiences as vivid, creative, tactile and due to my brazen curiosity, sometimes boldly engaging.
Often life's tough lessons were learnt on the go. I am grateful for the strength, confidence and sense of fun those early years instilled in me. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't boring!
I graduated from the Australian Institute of Music in 1998 with big dreams of a career in music and so I set sail awkwardly into the night. I had many adventures and met some incredible personalities.
In 2003-2005 I completed a diploma of Entertainment Design at Enmore Design Centre majoring in Illustration. I was on the path to being a professional artist in 2006 after being accepted into the National Art School, however I pulled out of my studies to pursue my musical endeavours, after all playing guitar was my first true love.
For the next 15 years I travelled the world, sometimes to perform, sometimes to enjoy the view.
During this time I 'stunt doubled' a professional career in the corporate live events industry. It's here I met some exceptionally clever people and gathered invaluable technical skills and business smarts.
My musical escapades led me to recording three studio albums, spending six weeks on a remote Caribbean island, and driving solo around NZ and Ireland songwriting. My head was ambitious but it was towing a dreamy heart in a fast paced world.
In 2019 I found myself touring around Australia playing guitar with reformed 80's new wave outfit Do Re Mi, supporting Icehouse, The Sunnyboys and The Church. These were some of the best days of my life. Then Covid hit.
Fast forward to 2020 I’ve found myself on the outside of normal occupation and routine due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It decimated the events industry and I was one of the many causalities.
Since August 2020 I have been occupying myself by studying the great art masters of Impressionism. I submerged myself in painting. I lived it, breathed it. I spent hours at the easel.
It has been incredible for me over the past months to sit down and dedicate my entire self to further exploring years of manifest and imagination.
Painting has inspired change and changed my perspective on what is possible.
The true joy is using my art to create beautiful fashion and luxury homewares. Designs with meaning, pictures with depth.
The idea of Beobe came to me in a dream. And so, remembering that only the impossible is worth the effort, I have set out to try my best at something that brings me a great deal of joy. I hope to spread that happiness to everybody who engages with Beobe.
Beobe for me stands for confidence, clarity and beauty.
It's been a wild rollercoaster ride, and yet I always remember what Kelly Jones says, "You Gotta Go There To Come Back".
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to submit my artwork into the West Torrens competition. All the submissions were excellent and would like to see where this competition takes these artists. Again, thank you so much for your opportunity you give to all South Australians.
