Unit 1: Classical Drawing with Pilar de la Torre Throughout this unit students will explore subjects such as still life, the figure, and landscapes in a series of set observational exercises that will inform how to visually deconstruct and then reconstruct images, to produce layered drawings imbued with feeling. Award-winning Melbourne based artist Pilar de la Torre has been honing her drawing skills ever since winning the Thea Proctor Scholarship at Julian Ashton Art School Sydney. Her passion for art has led her to travel and study in Italy, France and Russia, and has also resulted in several awards including the Tom Robert’s Prize for a non-landscape. Pilar’s personal philosophy of ‘constant and never ending improvement’ has exposed her to many schools of thought with regards to drawing and painting, which she continues to share through her extensive teaching experience in classes across Melbourne.
